Mogherini congratulates new government

Brussels, 06/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - In a statement sent out in Tunis on Thursday 5 February, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini “congratulates the new Tunisian prime minister, Habib Essid, and the whole of his government for the vote of confidence they obtained today in the Assembly of the Representatives of the People”. Mogherini announces that she will visit Tunisia “very soon to meet the new Tunisian leaders, address all these issues with them and deepen the relationship of trust and friendship that links Tunisia to the European Union”.

Mogherini states that “the new Tunisian authorities have a historic responsibility - that of consolidating the remarkable democratic progress, of addressing the country's numerous socio-economic challenges”. The EU remains, she says, “committed alongside Tunisia and determined to bring it its support. It wants to work closely with the government and civil society to bring progress to our privileged partnership and to accompany their efforts to move further towards democracy, justice and prosperity for all Tunisians”.
