Brussels, 06/02/2015 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 6 February, the NGO AmnestyInternational issued a statement in which it criticised the fact that the Spanish authorities have not provided the 14 migrants who drowned off the coast of Ceuta one year ago with justice. The incident took place after the Spanish Civil Guard opened fire on migrants with rubber bullets, the NGO states. The case raised the concern of Cecilia Malmström, the then commissioner for justice and home affairs. “One year on from this tragic incident, victims and their families are still waiting for justice, while the investigation has been blocked and stalled”. The new Commissioner, Dimitris Avramopoulos, has resumed talks on the subject with Madrid and, in particular, discussions on a controversial legislative bill to legalise summary returns at Ceuta and Melilla.
