Brussels, 05/12/2014 (Agence Europe) - The European Commission is proposing that Elke König of Germany, who currently chairs the German bank supervision authority (BaFin), should chair the Single Resolution Board (SRB) of the future European bank resolution authority.
Following hearings of candidates at the European Parliament (see EUROPE 11200), the Commission proposed the following people for the six permanent members of the SRB: Elke König to chair the committee, Timo Löyttyniemi of Finland as Vice-Chair, Mauro Grande of Italy as Director of Strategy and three people as Resolution Planning Directors, namely Joanne Kellermann of the Netherlands, Dominique Laboureix of France and Antonio Carrascosa of Spain.
The EP's economic and monetary affairs committee will hold a hearing of König on Monday 8 December and the candidates for the other jobs on Tuesday 9 December. The chair would initially be appointed for three years, renewable once for five years. The other jobs are for a non-renewable period of five years.
Once the European Parliament has given its appproval for each of the individuals, this will need to be endorsed by the Council (acting by qualified majority). (MB)
