05/12/2014 (Agence Europe) - CoR's call. On Wednesday 3 December, the Committee of the Regions (CoR) called for more flexibility in regional financing and for appropriate participation from regional and local authorities, as part of the European neighbourhood policy (ENP). The rapporteur for the opinion that was adopted, Olgierd Geblewicz (EPP, Poland), stated that “the involvement of the regional and local level, both in the EU and in the ENP countries, is absolutely necessary in order to improve the design, implementation and acceptance of the ENP on the ground”. The CoR members also reiterated “the importance of strengthening democracy and the decentralisation of power” in the neighbourhood countries. (CG)
