Brussels, 12/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - In response to a Eurobarometer survey on the level of European citizens' satisfaction with public transport, the International Association of Public Transport (UITP) states that public transport users should be better informed about the costs. The results from the survey corroborate research undertaken by the UITP, which also indicates that the number of passengers has been constantly riseing over the past decade (except in 2009).
The Eurobarometer survey indicates that around 70% of Europeans are satisfied with public transport. UITP Secretary General Alain Flausch points out that some levels of public transport use are particularly high (50% by city dwellers) and that “demand is much more sensitive to frequency than fares”. Nonetheless, more than 60% of the Europeans who responded to the survey said that there were not happy with ticket prices. Flausch says that more effort should be made to improve information to passengers about the real costs of using public transport. (MD)
