Brussels, 06/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - ONE, a non-governmental organisation fighting against extreme poverty around the world and the prevention of disease in developing countries, is pleased with the outcome of the G7 summit although it admits that its expectations were not very high. On Thursday 5 June, it said more progress had been made than expected on some development issues, such as transparency in mining and extractive industries.
ONE says that the G7 leaders promised to draw up global common rules for better transparency on bribes to governments by companies, which ONE says is a major advance.
ONE says the call for international standards on the reporting requirement on payments by companies project-by-project sends an important signal that transparency must be the rule for governments and companies throughout the world.
ONE says that the G7 leaders managed to keep up the momentum on healthcare and agriculture and welcomed the development plans for the post-2015 world, such as the commitment to have clear, measurable targets, action to fight AIDS and greater vaccination funding for the GAVI alliance in 2015. (AN)
