06/06/2014 (Agence Europe) - Hitachi Materials and Mitsubishi Materials acquire joint control over MMC Superalloy. On Thursday 5 June, the European Commission gave the go-ahead to the acquisition of joint control (51%) of MMC Superalloy Corporation by Hitachi Metals and Mitsubishi Materials Corporation, all of Japan. MMC Superalloy is currently a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Materials, specialising in the manufacture of super alloys of non-ferrous metals used in a range of sectors, including the aerospace industry. Hitachi Metals manufactures high-functional materials for use in the electronics and automotive industries, for instance in engines and exhaust systems. MMC Superalloy has some limited activities in the EEA. The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would not raise competition concerns given the parties' moderate combined market position resulting from the proposed transaction. (EL)
