12/05/2014 (Agence Europe) - Council approves organisation of human rights dialogue. On 12 May, foreign affairs ministers approved the organisation of dialogue with Burma/Myanmar on the question of human rights. This dialogue will organise discussions on bilateral cooperation and questions of mutual interest in the area of human rights, democratic principles and the rule of law, particularly with regard to enhancing cooperation in multilateral bodies. It will also seek to discuss and exchange views regarding the role played by governments, institutions and civil society in the protection and promotion of human rights on the international and domestic scene. The exchange of information and best practice, as well as the exploration and facilitation of EU support, are the other goals in this dialogue. The dialogue is expected to take place on an annual basis. (CG)
