London's huge success in 2013. In 2013, London recorded a record year in terms of visitors, with 16.8 million tourists visiting the British capital last year. This represents around one million more than in 2012 (+9%). This is the first time in its history that London has hosted so many visitors in a single year, making the capital one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, according to TravelDailyNews International. Among its tourist attractions, the British Museum attracted the most visitors (6.7 million), thanks in particular to its exhibition on Pompeii and Herculaneum. According to the statistics published by the Office for National Statistics' International Passenger Survey, tourists spent £11.2 billion in the capital in 2013, or around £1 billion more than in 2012.
