Brussels, 19/03/2014 (Agence Europe) - Members of the European Parliament's internal market committee (IMCO) have suggested that, in the next Parliament, they will try to make sure that re-registering cars in another member state will be made easier. They had previously set a three-month deadline for market procedures on this subject and, on Tuesday 18 March, stated that online procedures that were already possible in some member states should not take more than 30 days. They also held another vote on the report by Toine Manders (ALDE, Netherlands) (27 votes for, with 4 abstentions), which updates his mandate for negotiations that was previously granted. Although discussions with the Council had stalled on tax questions, the IMCO committee is thus making clear the progress made in the institutional trialogue, before it hands over the dossier to the next European Parliament. The new rules are also expected to introduce mutual recognition of road-worthiness test certificates between member states. In an effort to fight fraud, MEPs also recommend that registration authorities be allowed access to car registration files in other member states, as well as access to the European car and driving licence information system (EUCARIS), which is already being used in a large number of member states.
