In the third quarter of 2013, the European Union registered a current trade surplus of €35.6 billion (compared with €30.3 billion in the third quarter of 2012), according to initial, non-seasonally adjusted estimates published by the EU's statistical office, Eurostat, on Friday 6 December. The current account moved from deficit into surplus over the same period (€1.4 billion in Q313 compared with -€6.8 billion in Q312), whereas the current sales deficit fell from -€18.5 billion to -€16.6 billion. The service account surplus fell to €39.6 billion from €43 billion and the revenue account from €12.6 billion to €11.2 billion. (MB/transl.fl)
