Brussels, 06/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - Bulgaria and Romania expressed great disappointment on Thursday 5 December at the other member states' attitude and their refusal to allow the two to join the Schengen Area. The ministers decided to discuss the matter again at some later date after the elections, which ignores the fact that the two counties have carried out a lot of work and borne the cost of complying with the Schengen criteria. The two countries pointed out that, in conclusions documents in 2011, the Council of Ministers and European Parliament had said the two countries were ready at the technical level. The countries voicing public opposition to Bulgaria and Romania joining Schengen include Germany, the Netherlands and France. Decisions have to be unanimous. (SP/transl.fl)
