06/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - Action plan to promote human rights. During a conference on 4 December, Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Garabashvili announced a new action plan to promote human rights in his country. The plan, developed with the participation of Georgian civil society and international partners, “will serve as a platform for the continuation of reforms”, said the Georgian government in its press release. The plan should enable further strengthening of the government's responsibility and ensure the protection of human rights in line with the higher European standards. During the conference, the participants - officials from the government and parliament, representatives from the Georgian diplomatic corps, NGOs, and international partners - discussed the conclusions of the report by EU Special Adviser Thomas Hammarberg published in September 2013 and the implementation of the recommendations that it includes (see EUROPE 10928).
