Funding of €166 million for four projects

Brussels, 06/12/2013 (Agence Europe) - The EU has announced that budgetary aid of 1,859 million dirham (€166 million) is to be granted to Morocco to fund four projects after an agreement was signed in Rabat on Thursday 5 December.

The four projects in question are: - support for reform of public management and funding (budgetary reform, promotion of the quality of the public service, and reform of the tax system), worth 841 million dirham (around €75 million); - support for job creation and skills, worth 448 million dirham (€40 million); - support for the national literacy campaign, worth 391 million dirham (€35 million); - and, finally, a support programme for the national Agriculture Council strategy, worth over 180 million dirham (€16 million).

The fisheries, agriculture and rural development sectors are very important for EU-Morocco cooperation with over €260 million in grants allocated over the period 2011-2013 and, more especially, in favour of solidarity agriculture, the EU delegation in Rabat points out.

European Ambassador Rupert Joy, who signed the agreement, stated that such funding shows the EU's constant commitment to support Morocco in the strengthening of public governance and in the promotion of economic and social development. (FB/transl.jl)
