Brussels, 08/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - By adopting the report by Dominique Ricquet (EPP, France) in Strasbourg on Tuesday 8 October (585 votes for, 66 against and 13 abstentions) - a report on the mobilisation of the European Global Adjustment Fund (EGF) - the European Parliament approved aid of €2.6 million for Italy. The objective of the aid is to help 1,010 of the 1,030 workers who were made redundant from De Tomaso Automobili SpA find new jobs. They were made redundant due to major changes in the global trading structure as a result of globalisation.
The same day, the European Parliament approved (584 votes for, 67 against and 7 abstentions) the payment of €1.1 million to help workers made redundant from Anovo Italia SpA and Jabil CM Srl find new jobs. These measures concern 480 of the 529 workers made redundant in Lombardy. The Council of Ministers of the EU still has to give its decision on these two requests for aid. (LC/transl.fl)
