Brussels, 08/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 7 October, Michael Mann, the spokesperson for High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, deplored the murder of a security guard to the ambassador of Germany in Yemen, Carola Müller-Holtkemper - a murder which took place in Sanaa the previous day. The EU also deplores the abduction of a Unicef employee, Mann added. “Attacks on foreign targets are unacceptable”, Mann stated, recalling that diplomats and the staff of embassies and non-governmental organisations are there to help the Yemeni government and population. “Security is an essential element to successful transition”, Mann added.
Condemning this “cruel act”, Germany's Minister for Foreign Affairs Guido Westerwelle, stated that he had agreed with his Yemeni counterpart on close cooperation in order to lead to an inquiry. Westerwelle said that a team of German experts will help the inquiry in Sanaa.
Mann stated that while the EU confirms these incidents, the detailed circumstances of the events will be the subject of an inquiry. (CG/transl.fl)
