€149 million over 7 years for cooperation with El Salvador

Brussels, 08/10/2013 (Agence Europe) - With an expected envelope of around €149 million for the next seven years, development cooperation between the European Union and El Salvador will focus on social services for young people, private sector development, and the fight against vulnerability to climate change - so as to benefit the people who have the greatest need of aid. European Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs, who is currently on his first official visit to Central America, made this announcement in El Salvador on Tuesday 8 October.

The envelope of €149 million for 2014-2020 still has to be approved by the EU's budgetary authority (the European Parliament and the Council). It is part of the envelope of €775 million planned for El Salvador, Nicaragua and Guatemala. Out of this expected total amount, €120 million is due to be allocated for the financing of regional projects. (AN/transl.fl)
