Brussels, 06/09/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 5 September, High Representative of the EU for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton welcomed the progress in preparing for the elections in Kosovo on 3 November - “in particular the decisions of the central electoral commission and the registration throughout Kosovo of many parties and entities, with the facilitation of the OSCE” where foreseen by the 19 April agreement. “These are good steps forward for ensuring fair elections with participation from all the communities in Kosovo”, said Ashton's spokesperson.
“The high representative appeals to all parties to continue to work hard on preparing the electoral process”, her spokesperson stated, saying that Ashton asks them to continue to show maturity and good will in addressing the many issues that undoubtedly will still arise between now and the elections. “The municipal elections of 3 November represent a milestone for the future of Kosovo and for the normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina”, Ashton's spokesperson said. The Serbian and Kosovan prime ministers, Ivica Dacic and Hashim Thaçi, will meet in Brussels on Sunday 8 September in Ashton's presence, as part of the follow up of the 19 April agreement and the action plan (see EUROPE 10909).
