The second edition of the Naiades programme - the objective of which is to support the transfer of freight to European waterways - will be presented in Strasbourg on Tuesday 10 September by European Commissioner for Transport Siim Kallas, in the presence of France's Minister for Transport Frédéric Cuvillier. This is a new package of measures aiming to make better use of the 37,000 kilometres of navigable rivers and canals in Europe, and thus to make freight transport more sustainable both from the environmental and employment points of view.
