Brussels, 10/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - On Wednesday 10 July, the European Commission proposed a 5% staff cut by 2018 in the 32 decentralised agencies of the EU institutions. This measure, contained in a communication, is a result of the agreement on the EU's multiannual financial framework (MFF) for 2014-2020.
The Commission nevertheless recommends making a distinction between: - agencies that are already established which do not have new tasks; - those which exist and which have new duties; - new agencies. Only the latter will be able to increase their staffing levels. In total, the Commission expects a decrease from 6,050 to 5,796 in the number of officials working in the decentralised agencies. The EU's contribution to the agencies will be €6.4 billion over the 2014-2020 period. Furthermore, 346 existing posts will form a redeployment pool to enable agencies to function properly in the 2014-2020 period. The communication will be submitted to the budgetary authority (the European Parliament and the Council of Ministers of the EU). (LC/transl.fl)
