Brussels, 10/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 9 July, the European Commission launched a public consultation on ways of improving construction techniques for buildings, reducing the sector's negative impact on the environment, making buildings more sustainable and creating ecological outlets for companies. All stakeholders are invited to submit their comments before 1 October 2013 on the main environmental problems confronting the sector, data availability, systems for assessing and communicating buildings' environmental performance, as well as ways for stimulating demand and using construction materials more efficiently.
The results of this consultation will inform the communication that the Commission intends to present on sustainable buildings. There are currently no common criteria for measuring the environmental performance of buildings. It is therefore difficult for construction sector stakeholders to take into account environmental aspects in their activities and purchasing decisions.
