Brussels, 10/07/2013 (Agence Europe) - The European Union representative for the Sahel region, Michel Reyverand de Menthon, who visited to Morocco on Friday, affirmed the major role played by that country in ensuring security in the Sahel Sahara region. He proposed that work should be done effectively throughout the region.
In statements to the press after a meeting with the deputy foreign minister, Youssef Amrani, the EU representative said he was convinced that, despite the progress made, the situation remains dangerous - whether due to terrorism or to all the trafficking that fuels one of the networks that create so many weak points in a vast zone united by complex interaction. The strategy adopted by the EU for the Sahel region is geared to coherence between security and development, de Menthon said, placing emphasis on “prevention”. It is necessary, he said, to prevent the situation from growing worse and to try to bring the dangerous tendencies under control. (FB/transl.jl)
