Brussels, 31/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - During an exchange of views with stakeholders on revision of air passengers' rights, the rapporteur, Georges Bach (EPP, Luxembourg), set the tone of his approach on Wednesday 29 May at the meeting of the parliamentary committee on transport and tourism. On the basis of the Commission's proposal aimed at revising the rights of air passengers, presented end January (Regulation 261/2004, see EUROPE 10805), Bach expressed the wish that stricter regulation on the limitation of hand luggage be included and that light would be shed on the cases of airline insolvency. The European Commission had not gone into these two points in depth in its legislative proposal, as the European Parliament had requested. Bach also intends to hold further discussion on the three hours minimum delay that gives rise to compensation, as well as late arrivals that give rise to connection problems, and the list of exceptional circumstances established by the European Commission. Bach also insists on the fact that information must be available for passengers before, during and after the flight. Generally speaking, the rapporteur does not wish to repeat errors contained in the previous legislation. In order to forge their opinion, MEPs were also able to obtain comments from stakeholders affected by revision, namely the Airports Council International, the International Air Transport Association (IATA), the European Regional Airline Association (ERA) and the European Low Fare Airline Association (ELFAA), as well as TUI Travel, and the European Consumer Centre (ECC) and the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC). The transport committee will vote on passengers' rights on 14 November. (MD/transl.jl)
