Brussels, 31/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - Austria may be referred to the Court of Justice of the European Union for failing to provide sufficient information within two months concerning the transposition into national law of the directive on application of the principle of equal treatment between men and women in self-employed activity (Directive 2010/41/EU). The Commission has already sent a letter of formal notice to Vienna - but no response has yet been received - to ensure that women in a self-employed activity and the spouses of self-employed workers benefit from maternity allowance and maternity leave of at least 14 weeks. Measures have been taken by Austria but only partially cover the whole directive, which means that the number of women working in self-employed activity has declined. (MD/transl.jl)
