Brussels, 31/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - On 30 May, Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Füle welcomed the adoption by the Albanian parliament the same day of three key measures relating to the procedures of the parliament, civil service and supreme court, after several months of debate. “Important to keep cross-party consensus for moving the country forward on EU path”, he added on his Twitter account. The adoption of these measures is part of the conditions for the country to obtain candidate status (see EUROPE 10750). However, Tirana must also continue its reforms and take measures to combat corruption and organised crime. The conduct of the parliamentary elections on 23 June is also considered as a crucial test. On 23 April, the Albanian minister for European integration, Majlinda Bregu, underlined that, if these measures were voted through and the reforms continued, it would make possible a positive recommendation from the European Commission in its progress report in October 2013 (see EUROPE 10833).
