Unemployment on the rise again in eurozone

Brussels, 31/05/2013 (Agence Europe) - Unemployment rose again in April 2013 in most eurozone nations, with a total of 95,000 new people joining the dole queues. Unemployment currently stands in the eurozone at 12.2% of the working population, compared with the unchanged rate in the EU27 of 11%.

The latest figures released by the European Union's statistical office Eurostat on Friday 31 May show that in Cyprus, unemployment rose from 14.5% to 15.6% in one month. Youth unemployment in Portugal rose from 41.2% in March 2013 to 42.5% in April, while youth unemployment in Spain rose by 0.4% in a month to 56.4%. Youth unemployment is continuing to rise across the board in both the eurozone and the EU27, to 24.4% (a 0.1% rise) and 23.5% (also a 0.1% rise) respectively. (JK/transl.fl)
