UEFA and Commission give practical tips for EURO 2012

Brussels, 01/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - EU Commissioner for Health and Consumer Policy John Dalli launched an information campaign on Friday 1 June for fans travelling to the EURO 2012 football championship. Also launching the campaign was Michel Platini, UEFA President, supported by the network of 29 European Consumer Centres (ECC-Net).

A website has been opened offering tips on how best to prepare one's trip and on what should be done in the event of consumer problems encountered by fans once in Poland or upon return from there. The site will be accessible from the EURO 2010 official home page and from many other websites - including the ECC site.

The Europe Direct Contact Centre services will answer any online query on general EU consumer rights in 23 languages, while a consumer infoline in English - operated by the Polish consumer organisation, Federacja Konsumentow, will provide legal support to those who run into consumer problems in Poland. Posters about these services will be displayed for the benefit of fans at popular hotels.

“Fans can pick up some practical tips on how to handle problems they could encounter as consumers such as delayed flights, lost luggage, or hotel services which are not quite what was presented in the brochure when they booked”, said John Dalli. Michel Platini was of the view that: “This initiative will help fans from all countries to enjoy their stay in Poland and Ukraine”.

The address of the website is:

http://ec.europa.eu/dgs/health_consumer/uefa_euro_2012/index_en.htm

For the free consumer infoline, dial: 800 007 707 (when calling from a Polish fixed line phone or mobile phone with Polish operators).

The consumer infoline is: +48 228 27 5474 (when calling from a mobile phone with foreign operators. Normal charges apply, including roaming.)
