Brussels, 01/06/2012 (Agence Europe) - On 31 May, the European Commission sent Italy a reasoned opinion requesting that it adopt the national legislation for implementing the latest marine equipment standards, as introduced by EU law. The rules in force with regard to marine equipment (Directive 2010/68/EU amending Council Directive 96/98/EC) were updated in 2010. Rome has not notified the Commission of measures taken for ensuring application of the revised rules, which should have been fully transposed by 10 December 2011. If Italy does not inform the Commission within two months of measures taken to fully comply with EU law, then the Commission may refer the matter to the EU Court of Justice. (OL/transl.jl)
