Brussels, 16/04/2012 (Agence Europe) - British Labour MEP Arlène McCarthy wants prison sentences to be introduced for the worst cases of insider dealing, as suggested by the European Commission (see EUROPE 10476). McCarthy, who is a rapporteur for the EP, said during a committee debate at the European Parliament last week that civil court hearings could not replace criminal court hearings for insider dealing and the two should exist side-by-side. The option of sending those guilty of insider dealing to prison should be considered, she added. The MEPs speaking in the committee debate were divided over whether EU rules should apply to OTC dealing and small businesses. (MB/transl.fl)
