Brussels, 16/04/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Friday 13 April 2012, the European Commission opened an in-depth investigation into the planned creation of a joint venture in the UK by Vodafone, Telefónica and Everything Everywhere in the field of mobile commerce. The Commission's preliminary investigation indicated potential competition concerns in the nascent markets of mobile payment applications supply (“mobile wallets”), mobile advertising and related data analysis services, where the joint venture may have very high market shares and be able to prevent competitors from entering the market or undercut them. The Commission now has 90 working days, until 27 August 2012, to take a final decision about whether the deal (notified on 6 March 2012) would reduce competition or whether it can be authorised.
