Brussels, 16/04/2012 (Agence Europe) - On Sunday 15 April, the EU high representative for foreign affairs strongly condemned the Taliban-coordinated attacks committed that day on public institutions and international organisations in Afghanistan, including Kabul. Catherine Ashton emphasised that “the EU wishes to reaffirm its support to the Afghan Government and its commitment to continue supporting the Government's efforts in consolidating stability and democracy”. The spokesperson for Ashton explained that the European External Action Service (EEAS) is in contact with EU personnel on the ground and that the personnel in question are safe. The EEAS will continue to monitor the situation “very closely”, explained the spokesman. (CG/transl.fl)
