On Friday 13 April, Ana Gomes MEP (S&D, Portugal) urged the Honduran Congress to vote against a law criminalising the use of the morning after pill, even for the victims of sexual crimes, which would lead to the imprisonment of doctors or personnel selling this pill. She also asked other countries not to criminalise contraception methods and to fully respect women's reproductive rights and sexual health. The MEP said: “Contraception is not a crime and this measure is completely disproportionate. If the Congress does pass the law, the European Union would be bound to respond in a meaningful manner in the context of its external human rights policy.” (CG/transl.fl)
