More resources for collecting air safety data

Brussels, 20/02/2012 (Agence Europe) - In its annual report 2011, Eurocontrol confirms, via its Safety Regulation Commission, that the safety objectives were met in 2010 as regards accidents related to air traffic control. Eurocontrol regrets a lack of resources and personnel at national level dedicated to the collection and analysis of data on safety. “With the legislative developments in the Single European Sky, it becomes ever more important to ensure that the difficult economic situation does not have a negative effect on the National Supervisory Authorities (NSAs). Efforts need to be made at European level to improve the support that is given to NSAs and to ensure that they have the resources and the training to deliver their important function”, said Harry Daly, the chairman of the Safety Regulation Commission.
