Brussels, 20/02/2012 (Agence Europe) - Algeria and the EU would appear to be closing in on an agreement on tariff dismantling that will further open the Algerian market to European goods. The latest round of talks, on Thursday 16 February, suggests that an “acceptable compromise” might be in sight. A government spokesman told the APS press agency that “these latest talks have been very productive. … They have allowed the two sides to refine their respective positions and exchange constructive proposals”. An “acceptable compromise” for a comprehensive final agreement is in sight and could be reached “within the next few weeks”, he said. According to the media, “the two parties have agreed to meet for a further round of talks in Brussels in March”. The word from Algiers is that “the European side, which has discussed the Algerian proposals, will give an official response to these proposals after consulting EU member states”. (FB/transl.rt)
