Commission experts head for Ireland

Brussels, 20/02/2012 (Agence Europe) - After Lithuania on Tuesday 14 February, then Latvia on Thursday 16 February, it is Ireland's turn to welcome a team of Commission experts - the action team - which is considering options to help the eight member states most affected by youth unemployment address the situation (see EUROPE 10553). In Dublin on Monday 20 and Tuesday 21, the action team will hold discussions with the Irish authorities and the social partners on measures that might be taken to help the some 30% of young people unemployed. Among a range of possible measures are use of the structural funds, training and re-training, and support for small businesses (SMEs). After this third stop, the Commission experts will travel on to Slovakia, Greece, Spain, Portugal and Italy for visits which could take place this week, though some countries may well need more time to prepare for their discussions.
