EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Catherine Ashton has called on the Israeli authorities to investigate the attack on the mosque of Burqin village in the West Bank on 7 December 2011, in which a flaming tyre was thrown into the entrance of the mosque and the mosque's walls were sprayed with graffiti, her spokesperson announced on Thursday 8 December. Condemning the attack, Ashton said that “accountability and the rule of law are essential. Attacks against places of worship are particularly troubling”. “Provocative actions like this undermine efforts to promote peace in the region”, she added. (CG/transl.rt)
