Brussels, 08/12/2011 (Agence Europe) - European networks representing local and regional authorities will join forces on Monday 12 December, in Brussels, to defend the idea of governance in partnership, jointly organising a round table at the European Commission to be attended by various representatives of the European institutions. The Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), the Assembly of the Regions of Europe (ARE), the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) and EUROCITIES will first of all examine the issue of governance in partnership as a new model for Europe. Secondly, they will examine future cohesion policy, for which the Commission has suggested review for 2014-2020 programming. Johannes Hahn, European Commissioner for Regional Policy, who instigated the reform, is to take part in the round table, as well as Mercedes Bresso, President of the Committee of the Regions. A word of conclusion will be given by José Manuel Barroso, European Commission President. (MD/transl.jl)
