Brussels, 08/12/2011 (Agence Europe) -. Coach transport contributes considerably to greener mobility. At an event on this subject hosted by the European Parliament, on Wednesday 7 December, supported by MEP Michael Cashman (S&D, UK), the European coach operator, Eurolines, regretted that the current infrastructure does not give the company sufficient access to town centres, which reduces its potential scope. Keir Fitch, the head of cabinet for Transport Commissioner Siim Kallas, replied that he was well aware of the problem but felt that the Commission could not act on this without coming up against the principle of subsidiarity. He noted, however, that better connection between towns lies at the core of any revision of the European transport network (TEN-T), and that cohesion funds could possibly contribute to this.
