Brussels, 08/12/2011 (Agence Europe) - Coreso was set up in 2009 by five transmission system operators (TSOs) - RTE in France, Elia in Belgium, National Grid in the United Kingdom, Terna in Italy and 50Hertz in Germany. This regional coordination centre made a decision this week on a new phase for improving the security for electricity supply in Europe, by completing its operational coordination services through the setting up of a support service to TSOs, in the event of serious disruptions to the electricity system. On Monday 5 December, Coreso set up a new innovative instrument for intraday and real time processes, which provide operators real-time data that is updated every few minutes. Operators can therefore monitor the network with a more comprehensive insight than that provided by a single TSO. Operators can also analyse European scale problems more easily. Coreso aims to prevent large-scale disturbances occurring by carrying out intensive studies of the risks and by providing proactive coordination ahead of real-time. (EH/transl.fl)
