Brussels, 29/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - The NGO Corporate Europe Observatory is calling on the president of the European Central Bank, Mario Draghi, to resign from the G30 financial lobby of private and public sector banks. In a letter to Draghi published on its website on Monday, the NGO (soon to be chaired by former ECB head Trichet, and of which banks like JP Morgan Chase and BNP Paribas are members) says: “We find this membership deeply concerning and believe it may be in breach of the Treaty. The Bank and its president have an obligation to keep an appropriate distance from anything resembling private financial sector lobby vehicles. We believe you as president would be negligent, should you decide - as did the former president of the Bank - to retain your membership of the Group of Thirty.” (MB/transl.fl)
