Brussels, 14/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - Transport workers do not take kindly to the Commission's intention to table a proposal by end November on review of the directive on access to the ground handling market (96/67/EC). Ground handling workers in airports fear further deregulation in the sector, which would be detrimental to workers' social protection. The European Transport Workers' Federation (ETF) therefore organised, on 14 November, concerted action in 15 key European airports to heighten awareness of the problem. “The workers refuse that the EU further deteriorate ground handling jobs. We cannot accept that the ground handling sector come under new economic pressure, which will reduce the quality of jobs and services in airports”, explained Enrique Carmona, Chair of the ETF Ground Staff Committee.
