Brussels, 14/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - According to the MEP Mario David (EPP), the EU-Ukraine association agreement will not be signed at the EU-Ukraine summit in December unless the former Ukrainian prime minister is released from prison. President Viktor Yanukovych “can be sure that he will lose a unique opportunity to sign the EU-Ukraine association agreement at the next summit on 19 December if Yulia Tymoshenko is not released and given her civil rights back before then”, he said on Thursday 10 November, after a meeting in Warsaw with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. He stressed that Kiev must demonstrate that it shares the same values as the EU, “notably the respect of the rule of law and the independence of the judiciary”, and guarantee that the political opposition will be able to fully participate in the upcoming elections, that Tymoshenko is totally rehabilitated and that “any change of the electoral law will be previously agreed with the opposition”.
