Brussels, 07/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - €31.8 million over three years. This is the level of the EU's new contribution to the Global Education Fund, to be announced by the European Commission on 8 November for the period 2011-2013.
The announcement will be made at the conference of the donors held in Copenhagen on Tuesday by the global partnership for education, to replenish its coffers and mobilise new political commitments to promote education for all in the developing countries. The Commission points out that since 2004, its financial contribution has allowed more than nine million children to go to primary school, more than 85,000 young people to receive secondary education and has helped to train more than 720,000 teachers in some 50 developing countries.
