Brussels, 07/11/2011 (Agence Europe) - As the concept of national railways is being dismantled by the European Commission's reform proposals on the rail package, railway workers across Europe have organised a day of action for Tuesday 8 November. With the agenda of the European Parliament plenary session scheduling a debate on the rail package for 14 November, they are hoping to draw the attention of MEPs to their cause. Railway workers will demonstrate their opposition to the opening up of public rail services to competition and will do all they can to maintain the quality of these services. The European day of action has been called by the European Transport Workers Federation (ETF) and demonstrations will take place in Saarbrücken, Germany under the banner of “No separation! No fragmentation! Integrated rail services!” (MD/transl.rt)
