17/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - Non compliance with rules on pension funds by Poland and Estonia. On Thursday 16 June, the European Commission decided to refer Poland to the Court of Justice of the EU for failing to fully implement the occupational pensions directive into national law. Directive 2003/41/EC should have been transposed into Polish law by 23 September 2005 at the latest. According to the Commission, such a state of affairs is harmful not only for employers but also for employees, who cannot enjoy the same level of protection if they work for a company established in another member state or in a company that operates in many different member states. A reasoned opinion was sent to Estonia over the same issue. It has two months in which to comply. (J.K./transl.jl)
