17/06/2011 (Agence Europe) - Women and war - public hearing. With a view to a report to be drafted by Norica Nicolai (ALDE, Romania), the women's rights committee at the European Parliament (EP) organised, on Tuesday 14 June, a public hearing on women and war. During the debate, it appeared that the nature of armed conflict could change by having a greater number of women “peacemakers”. Nicolai is considering preparing an action plan dealing with the different situations of women in times of war. Raul Romeva i Vuelda, who is deputy leader of the Greens Group, underlined that women can be promoters of peace, although they are very often perceived as victims of war. (G.Ba/Gp/transl.jl)
