27/04/2011 (Agence Europe) - Christian festivals will feature in 2011-2012 edition of Europa diary. Leader of the Christian Democratic Party Christine Boutin (France) met European Health and Consumer Affairs Commissioner John Dalli in Brussels on 20 April to deliver a petition, launched by her party, on the Europa diary. The 2010-2011 diary published by the European Commission for school pupils made no mention of Christian festivals, thereby causing a great stir. The Commission acknowledged its error (see EUROPE 10292). The petition launched by Boutin's party gathered 54,000 signatures in only a few weeks. Commissioner Dalli repeated his pledge that Christian festivals would feature in the next edition of the diary, pointing out that he was one of those who wanted reference to Europe's Christian heritage to be included in the foreword to the Lisbon Treaty.
