Brussels, 24/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - An international study commissioned by Cisco, the worldwide leader in networking, shows that, throughout the world, technologies will in future play an increasing role in education systems and will transform learning. Fourteen countries on five continents were the subject of the analysis including, in Europe, Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom. Everywhere in the world, specialists are adamant that there are three imperatives for learning: 1) students must be prepared to face the global economy and ensure they are employable once qualified; 2) technology must be a part of educational systems and new technologies must be called upon to play a key role in how students learn; and 3) programmes and curricula must be set in place to allow students to acquire learning capacity in teams and according to projects. More specifically, the main concerns of those involved in education in Europe are funding, online security, the development of an international presence and strengthened research infrastructure capacity. Also, 68% of directors of university and higher education establishments in Europe state that the international online courses are a major opportunity for extending learning programmes at a global level.
