Approval of directors of European authorities

Brussels, 24/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - In Brussels on Thursday 24 March, the European Parliament (EP) followed the recommendation from its own economic affairs committee (see EUROPE 10343) and approved the appointments of the directors of the new European banking, insurance and securities sectors supervisory authorities. The appointment of Verena Ross as head of the European Securities and Markets Authority was approved in plenary session by 506 votes to 77, with 60 abstentions. Carlos Montalvo's appointment as executive director of the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority was approved by 539 votes to 44, with 65 abstentions. Adam Farkaz, the new executive director of the European Banking Authority, received 540 votes, to 44, with 61 abstentions. (L.C./transl.rt)
