New “World Farmers' Platform”

Brussels, 24/03/2011 (Agence Europe) - In the wake of increasing concerns over world food security, national farmers' and agricultural cooperative organisations from all over the world, have worked together to set up a “World Farmers' Platform”, the founding meeting of which will take place in Brussels on 29 March 2011, explain EU farm organisations COPA and COGECA.

The World Farmers' Platform aims to improve farmers' livelihoods and the viability of rural communities; contribute to world food security; improve farmers' positioning within the food chain; ensure coherence with other agriculture related activities, such as forestry, environment, trade, research and education, explains COPA-COGECA in a press release.
